A contractor has been selected and construction plans are being finalized for the reconstruction 400 South (SR-77) in Springville, including the reconstruction of the I-15 interchange associated with 400 South (SR-77). The current interchange will be replaced with a single-point urban interchange, or SPUI.
In mid-June the Utah Department of Transportation selected the bid of Utah County Constructor, a joint venture of Wadsworth Brothers Construction and Staker & Parson Companies, to complete the project. The bid is currently being finalized, and construction schedules are being set. "We are pleased with all of the bids we received," said Bryan Adams, project director for UDOT. "We believe Utah County Constructors will do excellent work at a price that is fair to Utah taxpayers." In addition to reconstructing the I-15 interchange, the SR-77 Project will reconstruct 400 South from I-15 to Main Street in Springville, which will incude a total of four lanes and a center median. The project also includes a new bridge over the railroad tracks at approximately 1500 West and reconstructing the bridge at 400 West to add two additional lanes. Adams said he expects construction activities to begin along the corridor in mid-July. Early work will include hauling fill material to where the new bridge structures will be built so soil settlement can begin, as well as clearing areas where new roadway will be placed. "As soon as we have accurate schedule information from the contractor we will make sure the public knows what we're doing and when we're doing it," Adams said. "It's important to us that we don't surprise anyone with our construction activities." Four open houses were held over the past year with Springville residents and businesses to discuss changes to the freeway interchange at 400 South. More than $82 million in federal and state funds have been set aside for these improvements. The main purpose for the construction is to reduce congestion along the road which connects to the freeway near the Springville Wal-Mart. The new railroad bridge at 1500 West is expected to improve safety and congestion because motorists will no longer need to wait for trains at that intersection. The SR-77 Project is part of UDOT's unique Access Utah County program management effort, which oversees four roadway projects in Utah County. The projects include SR-77 in Springville; Pioneer Crossing in Saratoga Springs and Lehi; SR-92 in Alpine, Highland and Lehi; and the Vineyard Connector in Vineyard, Lindon, Pleasant Grove and American Fork. |
