Pleasant Grove's new Community Center will be open to the public on July 1. The day will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. The public is invited to the event, after which residents can enjoy free admission to the center for the day to celebrate the grand opening.

"They're just putting finishing touches on it this week," he said. Everything in the center will be available for use immediately, except the bleachers, which will be installed later in the summer.

Approximately 900 people took tours of the center during its Strawberry Days Open House.

"We had so many people Saturday afternoon that we weren't able to count," said Nielsen.

"It is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside," was a comment that Nielsen heard from many of the visitors. The center is 77,000 square feet with three gyms, classrooms, offices, kitchen, locker rooms and showers, conference room, child care area and a large multipurpose room.

Exercise enthusiasts will enjoy the weight room, cardio room, spin room and aerobics room as well as the indoor track.

"We'll be adding new fitness classes the second week of July," said Nielsen. There is also new exercise equipment, including cardio and weight machines.

Until July 1, the center will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for people to get program information, purchase passes, and to look around the facility. After July 1, the center will be open for regular hours, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

"This is good for the community," said Nielsen. "It will give the community more than exercise and fitness."

The center is located at 547 S. Locust Ave.
