Residents of Alpine flocked to Legacy Park to support the Alpine Community Theater and enjoy the one dollar ice cream offered on June 21. The event was also part of the Alpine Arts Council's concert in the park series for the summer.

Future concerts will be held on the third Saturday in July and August. July features Marvin Payne and his sons in their debut concert on July 26 at 7 p.m.

"The Arts Council pays for these events and gives it to the community," Arts Council president Chris Culver said of the concerts in the park.

The Alpine Community Theater will be performing "Seussical the Musical," which is its fifth production. Others were "Beauty and the Beast," "The Music Man," "Annie," and "The Sound of Music."

Those who made it out to the park enjoyed a preview of the production performed by the actors, as well as unlimited ice cream in the sweltering June heat. The people clustered in the shade to avoid the temperature and get a good look at the performers as the sun worked its way towards the horizon.

"I'm really excited about our youthful cast," executive director and president of the Alpine Community Theater Laura Snyder said. "We have 105 people in the production and a lot of talent."

"I do it every summer, it's an addiction," Ashley Gray, who plays Gertrude McFuzz, said about her role in the musical. "We have three weeks left and we're ready to start running it."

"I am so excited," Rosa Parma, who plays Mayzie, said. "It is definitely a family show."

"It's a labor of love and we're all making it work," Jacob Porter, who plays General Genghis Kahn Schmitz, said. "It's a melting pot of ideas."

Tickets for "Seussical the Musical" can be purchased at the customer service desk at Kohler's in Highland, the River Meadows Senior Center in Alpine and at www.alpinecommunitytheater.org.. Tickets are $8 and all seating is general admission.

"We are having a blast, and the shows are starting to really take shape," Keith Allen, who plays the Cat in the Hat, said. "It is starting to look like a good show."
