SALT LAKE CITY -- Authorities still haven't recovered the University of Utah Hospital billing records that were stolen from a courier's vehicle more than three weeks ago.
But now University Hospital says fewer records were stolen than originally estimated.
The backup tapes contained information including social security numbers on about 1.5 million patients who visited the hospital over the past 16 years.
That's down from the earlier estimate of records involving 2.2 million people.
University Hospital says it refined the count by eliminating duplicate records and by accounting for bad addresses and people who have died.
The hospital is offering a no-questions-asked $1,000 reward for return of the billing records.
