The Orem Senior Friendship Center
The Orem Senior Friendship Center will be closed Friday for the Fourth of July and also July 24 for Pioneer Day. AARP driver safety course -- The Orem Senior Friendship Center is hosting an AARP driver safety course on July 16 and July 17, from 8 a.m. to noon. Attendance is required both days to get credit for the class. Cost is $10 per student and class size is limited to 20 students. Trips and Tours -- Seniors are allowed only to sign up for themselves and a spouse or a senior-aged friend. Current Orem Senior Friendship Center memberships are required for all participants on the tours. Sign-ups for August tours are being taken through July. Wendover Turn-Around -- The Wendover Turn-Around bus will leave at 8 a.m. July 8 at the center. Cost is $8. World Folkfest -- Transportation to the annual Springville World Folkfest leaves at 6 p.m. on July 17. Cost is $6. Play in Lindon -- The bus leaves July 21 at 7 p.m. for the Valley Center Playhouse in Lindon to see "Never Kiss on a Park Bench." Cost is $5. Salmon Supper -- The annual Salmon Supper in Payson is Aug. 1. The bus leaves at 3 p.m. and costs $1. Seniors buy their own $12 meal ticket. Wendover Turn-Around -- Another Wendover Turn-Around is scheduled for Aug. 13. This popular trip costs $8 and the bus leaves at 8 a.m. Dance -- There will be no dance Saturday because of the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Blood pressure clinics --Gentiva is hosting a blood pressure clinic on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Harmony Home Health will host another clinic at the same times on Wednesday and will also sponsor Bingo on July 10 from 1-2 p.m. Train your memory -- A memory training class is available form 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays in the conference room of the center. Don't forget to go. Transportation -- Home-bound individuals have transportation available to them through United Way by calling 374-9306. Meals are cooked at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and are furnished by Mountainland Association of Governments. Meals on Wheels -- Mountainland Association of Governments can provide a hot, nutritious meal to those seniors who are homebound as well. Call 229-3802 to be placed on the delivery list. Luncheons The Utah County Security Center will preparing meals for Orem Senior Friendship Center meals. Along with the change of meal service, the federal nutrition standards have changed as well. Seniors will see more fruits and vegetables, more whole grains, more fiber, less fat and less sodium in the meals. Milk will be one percent instead of two percent. Desserts will be served rarely. Meals will be suitable for persons with diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. A list of the number of carbohydrates in each food item on the menu can be made available so that diabetics can make an informed choice of what they will eat based on their own individual carbohydrate requirements. The suggested donation for the meal is still $2 for 60-plus seniors and $4.90 for those 59 years old and younger. The suggested donation for salads, which are still available when pre-ordered, is $2.25 for seniors and $5.65 for those 59 or younger. Mountainland Association Of Governments and The State Of Utah fund the senior lunch program. MENU Friday Closed for Independence Day. Monday Chili con carne, cornbread with honey butter, cooked carrots, pineapple tidbits, milk. Tuesday Sweet and sour chicken, steamed rice, stir fry vegetables, whole wheat bread/dinner roll, green salad with dressing, fresh fruit and milk. Wednesday Salisbury steak, green salad and dressing, steamed cauliflower, whole wheat bread/dinner roll, mandarin oranges, milk. Thursday Baked chicken strips, pork and beans, coleslaw, bread/dinner roll, sliced peaches, milk. |
