COUNTYWIDE • There will be fireworks shows in three cities in Utah County on Friday.
- Stadium of Fire, LaVell Edwards Stadium. Show starts at 8 p.m., followed by fireworks. - Thanksgiving Point, Lehi. Fireworks show starts at 10 p.m. - Pleasant Grove, Pleasant Grove Junior High School, 810 N. 100 East. Fireworks start around 9:40 p.m. • The Utah Deer Sam R.V. Chapter of the Good Sam Club of Utah collected more than 230,000 pop tabs from soda and beer cans in the past year to donate to the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Salt Lake City. The house turns the tabs in for money to run its charitable programs. Chapter members Jean and Brent North had the largest collection with 25 pounds of tabs. Phyllis and Jay Deuel came in second, Glenda and Dave Johnson third and Dyan and Gary Houston fourth. The Deer Sam chapter was recently named Chapter of the Year for Utah because of its many service projects and fundraisers. The chapter travels and camps together at least once a month. PROVO • The Utah Humanities Council has awarded a $1,500 grant to the BYU Museum of Peoples and Cultures for its Fourmile Ruin Lecture Series, which will fund a series of lectures on the Fourmile Ruin site and the relationship between the site and modern people. The Utah Humanities Council is a nonprofit organization that offers opportunities for all Utahns to engage in reflection, discourse and dialogue and to find joy in learning. The lecture series will bring in four experts in Anasazi (also known as Ancestral Puebloan) culture and pottery in the area surrounding the Fourmile Ruin archaeological site.
