SF UMPA Pexton wins award Print E-mail

W. Leon Pexton, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of Utah Municipal Power Agency (UMPA) in Spanish Fork, received the American Public Power Association's (APPA) James D. Donovan Individual Achievement Award at the Association's national conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. The award was initiated in 1959 and recognizes those who have made great individual contributions to the electric utility industry and to public power.

Pexton has been actively involved with the electric utility industry since 1974 in administrative and advisory roles. He began working for Utah Municipal Power Agency in 1991, where he currently serves as chief operating officer and general manager. Pexton represents UMPA at several industry and public power organizations. He is a member of the Western Electric Coordinating Council and has served on its Operations Committee. He is on the Board of Directors of the Colorado River Energy Distributors Association, chairing the Rates Committee and co-chairing the Special Projects and Operations committees. Pexton has testified numerous times before state legislative committees and task forces on utility issues, including electric deregulation, power system operation and transmission operation. On the federal level, he has represented UMPA on power marketing administration, environmental, and energy policy issues since 1994.
