MAPLETON CITY COUNCIL MEETING STORY Print E-mail
Debra Wells - SPRINGVILLE HERALD

The 2008 Mapleton Youth City Council members were presented to the full-time Mapleton City Council members at their June 18 meeting. Those YCC members in attendance were sworn in, along with their advisor, Lisa Sommerfeldt, and assistant advisors, Jan Salisbury and Gaylynn Jensen.

Lifesaving recognition Awards were presented to Clyde Gammell, president of Clydeco Building Supplies and Sergeant Ryan Farnsworth, Mapleton police officer; and to the members of the Mapleton ambulance crew, all of whom were involved in the successful efforts rescue of Clydco employee Cliff Holm. Holm was accidentally electrocuted at work on May 7. Holm is now out of the hospital and continuing his recovery.

The tentative 2008-2009 city budget was approved, subject to revision and the council discussed whether or not to include funds for a city library to replace the county-owned collection currently housed in the city building.

Public input is sought on the issue of funding the library as well as on other capital improvement projects, the proposed irrigation pond and property taxes. These will all be discussed at a special public meeting to be held Wednesday, July 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Mapleton City Hall, 125 W. 400 North, Mapleton.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Mapleton City Council, July 2, was canceled. The next meeting will be held on July 16 at 7 p.m.
