Pleasant Grove Pony Express Letter - Tomlinson Print E-mail

A kind city

This letter is to express a very loud thank you to the many citizens of our great little city who are so amazingly kind, courageous and unselfish.

I have had a couple of experiences just this past month where I have been so impressed with the eager compassion of people. My daughter, Marissa, has epilepsy. On Mother's Day, my family went to the American Fork Cemetery to look at our little boy's headstone. Before we were able to get to that area, she began having a grand mal seizure.

I couldn't find my phone and she was not breathing well. I yelled for help. Within seconds, there were several people there helping me get her out of the car, call an ambulance and make sure she was stabilized and just generally caring for her.

I didn't get their names, but I am forever grateful for their help and genuine selflessness.

Last Tuesday night, Marissa was walking with her friend, Katelyn Hansen, on Caveman Boulevard. She went into a seizure and fell into the ditch. Katelyn jumped in and held her head up out of the water so she could breathe. The water was very cold, but Katelyn ignored the cold and the rocks. She knew she just needed to help her friend.

While struggling in the ditch with Marissa, a family drove by, saw the struggle and jumped out to help. It took three of them to pull her out of the ditch. They called an ambulance and gave her two of their own blankets to warm her up. Again, I am in awe at the concern and compassion these strangers showed to my daughter.

My daughter's other friends, Danielle Pulley and Emilie Wilson, were calling for help and through the care of all these amazing people, I believe, saved my daughter's life that Tuesday evening.

I wanted to formally thank all of those who have helped us with this challenge in our lives. Surely, we have been blessed by the kindness of strangers and look for opportunities to serve others in need.
