Outgoing Payson Lions President Duane Gilger was honored for his year of service to the community at installation ceremonies at a June 26th garden event at the home of Van and Georgia Canann.

Newly installed president for the 2008-2009 year Steve Southwick noted the hours of "behind the scenes" service Gilger has volunteered over the last year.

"The numerous city council meetings and dedication to organizational details by Duane have significantly contributed to a successful Lions year of service," commented Southwick.

The club recently raised over $500.00 for eye-care for needy children at its second annual Yard-Craft sale at Payson High School. Gilger said he would like to thank all those who participated in purchasing booths and those who attended to help make the event so successful."Special thanks to Bart Peery, principal at Payson High for his help," said Gilger.

The club also this year sponsored the construction of a registry at the Payson Cemetery.

Southwick was installed as incoming president by longtime Payson Lion Ned Deuel with first Vice President Donna Gilger, second Vice President Rick Moore and membership chairperson Mabeth Southwick.
