Getting to Know You Payson Firefighter Stanley Spencer Print E-mail
Ashley Harward - Nebo Reporter

Years ago Stanley Spencer liked following the fire trucks as they raced to a fire. So once there was an opening in the fire department he took things to the next level and became a firefighter. "It's a fun job," says Spencer, "There are hard times when a house or haystack sets fire, but overall it's been a pretty fun job."

And his fun job has lasted 43 years. "There's been lots of fires. When you see people whose house is on fire they are feeling pretty low. But then you get a thank you for putting the fire out and that is the best pay off," says Spencer.

Although Spencer was the first in his family to be a firefighter, Spencer's two son's, Scott and Steve, followed in his footsteps. Scott is the fire chief.

Spencer has worked as a sheet metal worker, a furniture salesman, a repairman, and in the restaurant business.

He currently owns a dump truck and works in that field. When Spencer isn't volunteering his time and energy to the Payson public he enjoys golfing, hunting, and working in his yard.
