The Utah County Livestock Show is held during the Utah County Fair, between August 14-16. T the livestock show 4-H and the FFA kids who have raised and takne care of a steer, lamb, or pi; comes have themselves and their animals judged. Anyone is welcome to come and watch any of the events. Some of the categories that will take place are Fitting Demo's, Livestock Judging Contests, Market Shows, and Fitting & Showmanship.
A Fitting Demo is a demonstration on how to groom your animal. The Judging Contest is where the exhibitors get to judge groups of animals. Awards go out for the highest scores. The Market shows are when the enimals get judged for the quality of their meat. Fitting & Showmanship is judged on how well groomed and clean your animal is; how well your animal behaves, and how you present yourself and your animal. "It's a team between the animal and the exhibitor," states Cindy Shepherd, a 4-H livestock leader. Caring for their own animal teaches them responsibility, management, and social skills. "It's been in my family for a long time," says Benjamin 4-H member, Jenna Anderson, "all my siblings have done it and its fun." Dillon Shepherd of Lake Shore 4-H "likes the competition and excitement." For specific times of the events, go to www.westernlivestocksource.com/utahcountyfair then click on Prem. Book. |
