The Lehi police officer who was shot in the head during a traffic stop was released from Utah Valley Regional Medical Center on Saturday after recuperating there for more than three weeks.
Capt. Harold Terry was upgraded from serious to fair condition last week. UVRMC spokeswoman Janet Frank did not know Terry's specific condition when he left the hospital, but said he would not have been discharged if he had not been healthy enough.
"We only send patients home when they're ready to go," Frank said.
On the morning of June 23, Terry pulled over 34-year-old Kelly Wark, a Washington state native who was attending the Utah College of Massage Therapy in Lindon, after a gas station clerk called police to report a possible impaired driver. After briefly speaking to Terry, Wark pulled out a .38-caliber revolver and shot him twice in the head, hitting him above his left ear, police said. Two backup officers shot and killed Wark when she got out of her car.
Wark's family said she had a long history of severe mental illness. |
