MT. PLEASANT-- A ranch horse challenge is scheduled to come to Mt. Pleasant Rodeo Arena Saturday, Aug. 2, at 9 a.m. Deadline to sign up to participate in the event is Friday, July 25.

Ranch horse versatility competitions have become one of the fastest growing and most popular events in the stock horse culture. It is gaining popularity throughout the country for both spectators and contestants alike. The event is a first for Sanpete County.

Ranchers and livestock producers from throughout the area will demonstrate their good 'using' horses working ability in ranch-related events, including ranch riding, ranch trail, ranch cutting, working ranch horse and ranch horse conformation.

Contestants will compete for awards throughout the day. Cash pay-back awards will be given in the evening for the team cattle sorting session.

Local vendors will display western skills and goods. Thomas Quarter Horses will feature some of their quality ranch-raised horse babies and provide free ranch roping lessons.

The event is co-sponsored by Reed Thomas, Mt. Pleasant; and Evan Allred, a horse trainer of working cow horses, Beaver.

They will present first through fifth place awards in separate events. Dell Jensen, Chester, will provide the cattle and also host a cattle team sorting event in the evening.

Food booths will be open all day, under the volunteer services of Mt. Pleasant City Councilman Chris Larsen and members of the rodeo committee.

All proceeds and gate contributions will go towards the continued improvement of the rodeo grounds.

Entry forms and additional information can be found at www.ranchhorserider.com, or call Allred at 435-590-4329 or Thomas, 435-851-9121.
