BYU soccer falls to Vancouver Print E-mail
Daily Herald

The BYU men's soccer team had several chances but wasn't able to get the ball into the net as the Cougars fell 2-0 to the PDL's Northwest Division leader, Vancouver, on Friday night.

The Cougars fell to 7-6-2 and the Whitecaps improved to 11-3-1.

The Whitecaps took control of the game early in the first half when midfielder Alex Semenets crossed the ball to Gagandeep Desnath, who volleyed it past BYU's goalkeeper in the 16th minute.

Despite six second-half shots, the Cougars were unable to finish a ball. With just minutes left, the Cougars pushed most of their players forward and Vancouver capitalized with a goal in the 90th minute.

"The energy came a little late for us tonight," said BYU defender Drew VanWagenen. "We've had the same problem the whole year -- we just can't finish our chances. We create good chances, but we can't get the ball in the back of the net. In tomorrow's game, someone is going to have to take it upon themselves to score a goal."

The Cougars will play the Abbotsford Mariners tonight in Provo for their last game of the season. The game will start at 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on BYU-TV (Channel 21) and will be rebroadcast that night on KBYU (Channel 11) at 10 p.m.
