NEBO July 24th Print E-mail
Rae Ellsberry - Nebo Reporter

The 24th of July in Utah is a time to think about the beginning of our State. The people who made the desert blossom as a rose. Now is a time to really think about these people.

They came from all over the world looking for a better way of life. It is time to think of the sacrifices they made to come to Utah to help settle this State. It is time to think of their determination and devotion to their religious believes.

I can not think how devastating it would be to leave your old parents and other family members, who were too old or unable to make the trip from England or another country, knowing you would never see them again in this life.

They traveled by sea and land, burying your children and loved ones along the way in shallow graves. To travel crossed the plains in covered wagons with teams of horses or oxen. Then there were those that came with nothing but a hand cart. They had to leave their precious belongings behind because there was no room in the cart.

As we celebrate this 24th of July, Let us remember our own stories. When those fireworks go off, remember how hard earned they are.

Not all pioneers came to Utah. There are many stories in Colorado and California, Oregon and other place. These stories are as heart wrenching, filled with as much sacrifice and hardship. Let us, You and I celebrate this Holiday in honor of all pioneers everywhere.

Have fun and enjoy the fruits of our pioneer's labor, but take a moment to remember.
