Salem Days officially started this week. On Sunday, August 3, the chapel filled to overflowing at the Salem Stake Center as the city's residents kicked off the festivities.The Grand Marshal, Volunteer of the Year, and Family of the Year were announced.
To help open the fireside Mayor Henderson made some comments. "On behalf of the Salem City Council and myself, welcome. Let me tell all of you thank you for who you are and what you do. I think we are the only city that knows how to party so long and so well."
After his remarks the awards were given. The Grand Marshall is Reed and Lucy Cornaby, Volunteer of the Year is Dorothy Jensen, and the Family of the Year went to Paul and Margo Trotter.
At the last half of the meeting a concert was given by the group Voice Male. They are a six man contemporary a cappella group. They sang church hymns as well as other songs. John Luthy, one of the members, greeted the people of Salem, "We are glad to be here for you Salem Days."
Salem Days run from Sunday, August 3 to Saturday, August 9.
