Kimbrough named new offensive coordinator for Blaze
SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah Blaze head coach Ron James announced Monday afternoon the hiring of Tony Kimbrough as the team's new offensive coordinator.
"We are excited to bring an offensive mind like Tony Kimbrough into our organization," James said. "We're looking forward to producing at the same level that our offense has been for the last few years, and having Tony in the offense will only add fuel to our fire.
Most recently, Kimbrough was the offensive coordinator for the New York Dragons for three seasons (2005-07).
"I'm very excited for the opportunity to lead the offensive side of the ball," said Kimbrough, who was a quarterback in the Arena Football League and Canadian Football League. "We have one of the league's best quarterbacks in Joe Germaine and exceptional receivers from last year. The Blaze are known for their explosive offense and I look forward to building upon it and making sure we continue to be one of the best offenses in the league."
As the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Destroyers in 2001, his offense ranked third in the league in passing and sixth in total offense. While he was the quarterbacks coach at San Jose in 1997, the SaberCats ranked fifth in the league in passing.
• Blaze's Fountain signs with Dolphins: At Salt Lake City, Utah Blaze DL Maurice Fountain, a member of the 2008 Arena Football League All-Rookie Team, has signed with the Miami Dolphins.
Fountain tallied 13.5 tackles for the Blaze in 2008 and was second on the team in sacks with four. In all, Fountain had 11 solo stops, 2.5 assisted tackles, two pass deflections and a forced fumble.
"Maurice had a tremendous season for us in 2008 and was one of the main reasons why we made the playoffs for the third straight time in our franchise history," Utah Blaze head coach Ron James said. "We wish him the best in his endeavors with the Dolphins."
As a member of the Manchester Wolves (af2) in 2007, Fountain recorded 29.5 tackles and had a franchise-record 13 sacks in 16 games.

Engram out up to 2 months
KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Bobby Engram will miss six to eight weeks with a cracked bone in his right shoulder sustained on the first play of Friday's preseason game against Minnesota, adding to the injuries on offense for the defending four-time NFC West champions.
"It was a freak deal," coach Mike Holmgren said Monday, adding Engram remained in the game.
Holmgren said the worst case for Engram would be missing three regular-season games and returning for facing the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants on Oct. 5.
The 35-year-old Engram set a franchise record last season with 94 catches then skipped Seattle's offseason minicamps while in a dispute over a contract that expires after this season. The Seahawks are refusing to negotiate a deal beyond the one paying him $1.7 million this season.
The offense was also missing Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on Monday, for the second consecutive day. He has a stiff back that first tightened while he played two series against the Vikings.
"He tweaked it a little bit in the game, did something," Holmgren said. "He's taking it easy, taking a couple of days."

Kings sign first-round draft choice defender Doughty
LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Kings agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with defenseman Drew Doughty, the second overall pick in the 2008 draft.
The 18-year-old Doughty had 13 goals and 37 assists in 58 regular-season games for Guelph of the Ontario Hockey League last season. The 6-foot, 219-pounder had three goals and six assists in 10 playoff games.
Doughty was one of four draft-eligible players to help Team Canada win a gold medal at the world junior championships this year. He was chosen as the top defenseman of the tournament after recording four assists in seven games.
