Judy Stanton, coordinator of the Mountain View Hospital volunteers welcomed the volunteers at the Amber Restaurant in Spanish Fork last Saturday. About 30 volunteers showed up and enjoyed a delicious breakfast.
They were rewarded with a deluxe back scratcher for their efforts. Stanton said that the real reward a volunteer receives goes far beyond a back scratcher; it is the knowledge that he/she is helping the local hospital assist people (their neighbors) in a real time of need. Not only are they helping the hospital, they are helping the doctors/nurses, the patients and their friends coming in for a visit; they are helping themselves in knowing that they are doing something that would not get done if they had not volunteered.
The volunteer program is in need of about 20 more volunteers immediately to staff the soon to be opened, second reception desk in the new lobby. Additional volunteers are needed for numerous duties throughout the hospital in such areas as emergency, physical therapy, mail delivery, gift shop, etc. For selfless donation of their time, the volunteers are treated like royalty.
Most volunteers donate four hours per week. One volunteer enjoys it so much that she donates 20 hours each week. If anyone is interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Judy Stanton at 465-7119. While most volunteers are women, men are also needed and are encouraged to join. |
