Verna Caroline Miller Joines, beloved wife of Lorne Joines, died at home surrounded by her loving family on August 4, 2008 in Alpine Utah. Verna was born September 2, 1921 to Matilda Rurode and Herman Miller in Peterson, Iowa.

Verna graduated from High School in Iowa with the class of 1939. Her formal education also included a degree in home economics with honors from Iowa State University in 1943. In addition to her academic achievements, Verna was an accomplished seamstress, a master of many fine-art crafts and a wonderful homemaker, mother and grandmother. Her lifelong study and participation in her Christian faith and Bible study was consistent with her many acts of service to her family, friends and neighbors.

Verna is survived and greatly missed by her husband of 64 years, Lorne Joines of Alpine Utah, her daughter Janine (Lang) Baker of Sandpoint, Idaho, her son Steven Joines of Bozeman, Montana, her daughter Debra Taggart of Highland, Utah, seven grandchildren and six, soon to be seven, great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Emmett Miller (Joyce) of Des Moines, Iowa.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald Miller (Camilla), sister Ruth Jensen (Ward) and brother-in-law Gerald Joines (Fila).

A memorial service for Verna will be held Saturday, August 23 in Peterson Iowa in St. John's Church where Verna was baptized, confirmed and married. Internment of her ashes will be at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland, Iowa.
