Information offered on digital TV -- A representative of KBYU will be at the American Fork Public Library to present information on the transition to digital television and options available to households to prepare for the transition. The meeting will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday. The library is at 64 S. 100 East, American Fork.
Television stations must switch from analog to digital broadcasting formats by Feb. 17. Estimates of Utah County households indicate at least one-quarter of the population is receiving analog television and must purchase new sets or converters or not have access to programming in February. The representative will also present information about a government sponsored voucher program to assist consumers with the purchase of converter boxes. Concert in the Park -- Utah Premiere Brass will perform at Concerts in the Park Monday at 7 p.m. in the Amphitheater at Quail Cove, 851 E. 700 North, American Fork. The public is invited to attend the free event and may bring blankets or chairs. Utah Premiere Brass was formed in 2000 in an effort to revive a musical genre that was once the pride of almost every Utah community. At the turn of the 20th century, more than 100 brass bands performed throughout the state. Today, UPB is the only known British brass band in the state, although it is hoped that more will emerge in the future. Consisting of 30 musicians, Utah Premiere Brass has attracted professional players from all areas of the state of Utah and even beyond. It is under the direction of Alan Boyer. This British-style brass band has a unique sound capable of playing whisper soft passages and powerful fortissimos. Performances featuring Utah Premiere Brass also showcase a breadth of musical styles, including original symphonies, light classical, jazz, Broadway music, solo concertos and others. Boat dealership recommended -- The Planning and Zoning Commission on Aug. 6 voted to recommend the site plan for a Mastercraft boat dealership, at 735 S. Auto Mall Drive. Drew Menlove, the company's representative, told the commissioners 30 to 40 percent of their business at the 106th South store came from Utah County, so they decided to expand into American Fork. He said they were comparable to the Mercedes and Lexus of the boat world. The City Council will consider the plan before it becomes official. That date has not yet been set. |
