Beehive to Orem library for being recognized as one of the most-used in the nation. It was ranked eighth in the nation for circulation per capita. Use is booming, and that's a tribute to the library's helpful staff and imaginative programs.
Buffalo Chip to the South Jordan city council for banning air guns on public property. As one opponent said, the law should be dubbed the Every Kid a Criminal Ordinance. Under state law they can't ban real guns in most places, so now they're picking on youngsters. Are there so many eyes being put out by BB guns in public parks that this law was really necessary?
Beehive to Lindon resident Kim Tomlinson for returning a long-lost set of piano-tuning tools to Don Peterson, 83, of Highland. Tomlinson found the toolbox, which Peterson had mistakenly left by the road side after finishing a job, but only recently found the contact information in the box. Random acts of kindness like this are always heartwarming. Tomlinson is clearly in tune. And speaking of kindness ... Beehive to some anonymous volunteers who came to the aid of an Ogden woman. Ella Williams was facing a $125 fine if she didn't revive her brown lawn, but her sprinkler system was broken. The volunteers showed up and fixed it, refused to accept pay and headed off before she could even learn their names. We need more "Lone Rangers" like that. |
