Getting in shape? Print E-mail
Daily Herald

On August 2, we sisters, ages 51 and 52, walked, from our mother's house in Provo, the almost two miles (30 minutes) to the base of the trailhead to the Y, and then continued up to the Y. At the trailhead, we noticed three chartered buses in the parking area. We discovered they were chartered to pick up the BYU football team from their stadium and drive them the 2.5 miles to the trailhead. We wondered why these boys didn't walk up to the trailhead. Yes, it is a steep climb, but aren't they in training?

When questioned as to why they didn't do this, one of the team members commented that "this is a hard hike." One of the coaches indicated that time was an issue; they had meetings to attend. Okay, well, could a more convenient day possibly have been chosen, or even better, could these boys have been awakened an hour earlier to make the walk? Besides saving money on gas, this would have been a great strengthening exercise. Not only were they chauffeured to the base, we also saw a few four-wheelers carrying coolers, as well as water girls/boy carrying loads of water. Pampered boys? Frivolous spending? You decide. As for us, we had a good laugh at the absurdity.
