Spilled nails wreak havoc on I-15 Print E-mail
The Daily Herald

Utah Highway Patrol officers were busy Tuesday night after a vehicle dropped buckets of nails on Interstate 15 near Santaquin.

Calls from drivers with flat tires began pouring in to dispatchers at about 8 p.m. after the nails fell onto the road near milepost 244 on northbound lanes. Interstate 15 was closed for about 15 minutes in the area, and at least 26 cars were incapacitated along a nine-mile stretch of the interstate beginning at milepost 244 and moving northward.SClB"One of those being a semi-trailer that got six of those in one bang," said Highway Patrol Trooper Cameron Roden.

Roden said Incident Management and the Utah Department of Transportation were called in to deal with the mess, with the latter bringing in a magnetic roller to pick up the nails. No injuries were reported.

"We do have troopers in the area helping with flat tire after flat tire," he said.
