I live in Saratoga Springs and this underage driver has been known to be driving for YEARS. WITH his parents knowledge and permission. At this point I think the parent's need to be held responsible for this. It is ridiculous to teach a boy to drive on public streets at 12 or 13. I understand the boy may not have done anything wrong in his driving... but he and his parents were clearly wrong letting him get behind the wheel underage.

I didn't know that we had to license 15 year olds. Where do we do this?

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are going to post at least be smart enough to know what you are responding too!! To ask a question like that makes you as irresponsible as the parents in this situation. JMO

Yes....you're so right the parents are very much to blame for allowing there underage teen to drive....especailly without supervision. HOWEVER, the really sad thing is that there were so many people who KNEW that it was going on and apartly just let it be one of those things they chose to ignore instead of doing something about it. Now this young teen will be haunted for the REST OF HIS/HER LIFE knowing he/she killed a little boy. All because a bunch of adults sat back and did nothing to stop it from happening....including his parents. Let's all think about that before we judge this young teen. How many times do you just sit back and allow things to happen when you know something bad could come from the thing your ignoring. I feel devistated for this mom who lost her little angel and I feel devistated for this young person who has lost their life too.It will stay with that teen forever. So sad.

I've read comments on other websites where neighbors said they had complained about him to no avail. Apparently this neighborhood is considered private property (just guessing, maybe it's gated)and the local police do not have any jurisdiction. Doesn't make sense to me unless the homeowners pay for private security guards. I also complained to the police once about a neighbors erratic and dangerous driving and was told than unless an officer witnessed it himself, nothing could be done. IMO the responsibility rests squarely on the shoulders of the parents and the driver. They knew it was illegal and chose to break the law. Now they must be held accountable.

Ok folks seems to me if we find out this young man did nothing wrong then he did nothing wrong. He and his parents will still have to answer to driving without a license. Since many have done this in the past there will be a set way for officials to handle it. If he was at fault then he is in big trouble and that is nothing to be happy about. There is still too much that is unknown to even make a call on this. Questions like why a 4 year old was in the street or if he was on a bike in the street. The real thing we know is only that this is a tragedy and everyone is hurting. We'll see what the details are when they reveal them. There is a possibility that anyone driving on that street could have hit the child because they came along at just the wrong time. As far as the parents, if they contributed and allowed this young man to drive then they will pay for the results and then some as it should be. As far as the family of the child who was killed, they have suffered enough even if it is found they made a common parental mistake.

I think the only lessons that are obvious is children should not be in the street and underage children should not be driving a car. But we know that already.
