SALT LAKE CITY -- An 11-year-old boy who had been in a drug-induced coma for several weeks after a fireworks explosion woke up Thursday and talked with family members.
The boy's grandmother tells The Salt Lake Tribune that he's awake, talking and drinking.
Bridger Hunt of Orem suffered shrapnel injuries to his torso and left leg on July 24 in Lehi when a homemade firework exploded.
The boy remains in critical condition but is improving at Primary Children's Medical Center. His grandmother, Dyanne Richan Casper, says an infection in his body is diminishing and he may soon have his breathing tube removed.
He celebrates his 12th birthday on Friday.
