The nominees are M. James Brady, former Mapleton mayor and a partner with the law firm Bradford and Brady; James "Tucker" Hansen, a senior partner with the firm Hansen, Wright and Eddy; Christine L. Johnson, assistant city attorney for Spanish Fork; Wasatch County Attorney Thomas L. Low, of Heber City; and Brook Sessions, an attorney with Harris & Carter LLC.
A 10-day public comment period will be held before the names are submitted to Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. Written comments can be sent to 4th District Nominating Commission Chairman Kevin Worthen at the Administrative Office of the Courts, PO Box 140241, Salt Lake City, UT, 84114-0241.
The deadline to submit written comments is 5 p.m. on Sept. 2.
After the public comment period, the names will be sent to Huntsman, who will select a candidate.
That candidate's name will be sent to the Senate Confirmation Committee, and once the committee finishes reviewing the candidate, the name will be forwarded to the state Senate for confirmation.
Backlund, who has served on the bench for 25 years, will retire on Dec. 31. |
