A Provo man is in custody after a police officer was attacked with a six-foot bo staff, a traditional martial arts weapon.
Police responded Sunday night to a call that six people were brawling in the street, according to court documents. As officers arrived, the crowd dispersed. Officer H. Palmer called out to James Douglas Appleton, 39, of Provo, identifying himself as a police officer. Appleton refused to comply with Palmer's orders to stick around and walked back into his house yelling "no."
Palmer followed Appleton into his house, where he said the suspect raised a hardwood staff over his head and swung at him. Palmer grabbed the weapon and wrestled Appleton to the floor, where he disarmed him and handcuffed him, according to court documents. Appleton claimed he didn't know Palmer was a police officer, despite the full uniform and marked car he brought to the scene.
Appleton was booked into jail on a charge of attempted aggravated assault on a police officer. Bond was set at $10,000; he was released Monday morning. There is a hearing scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 2. |

Wow.. Whatever happened to the policeman is your friend. You all sound like we'd be better off without them. A man goes out everyday and deals with the dregs of humanity. He has to develop an offensive attitude out of self protection. Their charter is to protect the public and make instant decisions to do so.
Here's a police officer that arrives and a street argument. He tells them to stop and this guy turns (obviously very angry) and leaves the scene. The officer asks him to stay and he says no. The officer follows. He made an instant decision that this guy could be dangerous. Was he returning to his house to get a weapon? maybe. But he followed and the man swings at him with a club. Then says I didn't know it was a cop. Was he blind? Was he so angry that he couldn't see a uniform? If so he was obviously still a danger.
No I don't know what happend based on the story but I beleive we give our officers a benefit of the doubt. It's a thin blue line between civilization and anarchy.
We had a brutal policeman in my hometown when I was young. That sunvabuck would hurt folks simply because he could. So the kids my age beat the crap of the cop's kid. Vigilante justice, yes, but the cop's wife made him get another job
down in Vegas.
Anyone else find this to be disgusting?
What did the kid do you to you?
So, let me get this straight, you got a bunch of kids together, and beat up an innocent kid because of what his Dad was doing? What, you couldn't handle it yourself you had to gang up on the kid?
I always knew you were a coward, now we have proof. Wow, what a disgusting story. Not to mention, illegal, imoral, and just plain cowardly to the infinite degree. Don't talk about my theator incdient again, this one tops that by a mile, and I will NEVER let you nor others forget this story about you, shows your true character.
I understand it now!! Dubbs was the kid, the kids your age beat up, Wren. His mommie made his family move to Vegas, where, for 10 year he, Dubbs, had to work the streets to help put food on the table, because his jerk cop dad, couldn't find a job. Dubbies dad, Beat him and is mother and the new sister that came after they moved. That's why he, Dubbs, has a hard time comprehending. He is really in a mental institution in Provo, got a lap top from some charity, and there you have it the story of Dubbie

That's 'cause you seem to be a decent, caring individual interested in others and being nice.
What a thought!

I try Sir. Sometimes I'm not so nice. I don't think I so nice to Dubbs at times.
