Daniel Gibbons, who learned how to walk again after a car accident, was the recipient of a $10,000 check from Wells Fargo Wednesday morning for his winning essay in the company's "Someday Stories" contest.
Gibbons, a 23-year-old Provo resident, wrote about how the car accident changed his life and career goals. Because of the accident, Gibbons wants to be a physical therapist.
The check was delivered Wednesday morning on the Wells Fargo stagecoach.
"A broken pelvis and femur bone stranded me in an unfamiliar hospital environment among doctors, nurses and physical therapists," Gibbons wrote in his essay. "Throughout the coming months, I would experience more pain, discomfort and sense of achievement than I had ever felt before. Learning to walk again strengthened me more spiritually than it did physically. My experience in physical therapy as a patient has led me to pursue a new dream: to serve others in recovery as a physical therapist."
Gibbons also won $1,000 from Wells Fargo in June as part of the essay contest.
The contest, which started in May, awarded $1,000 every week to an essay writer. At the end of the three months of the contest, five finalists were chosen to receive $10,000 and a consultation with Wells Fargo professionals to create a plan to meet their goals. Each of the five finalists will have a video on wellsfargo.com/somedaystories where people can vote, starting Sept. 17, for their favorite story. The finalist with the most votes will receive the $100,000 grand prize. |
