Some would say Matt Marziale personally knows "every" kid in Spanish Fork.¬ Some might say that's an understatment.¬ ¬ Marziale, one of Spanish Fork's Recreation Supervisors has accepted an offer from Salem City to become their new Recreation Director.¬ According to Marziale, Salem was very aggressive in pursuing him.¬ And why shouldn't they, with 10 years as a Rec Supervisor, Mayor Thomas described Marziale as an employee who "went the extra mile" and one who would be "difficult to replace".
The new position is the next step in Marziale's career professionally and according to him, economically beneficial for him and his family.¬ Although Marziale had pretty much made up his mind to take Salem's offer, the SF City Council felt the city was losing a valuable asset and asked Councilman Leifson to see what would be necessary to keep Marziale.¬ According to Leifson, Marziale was offered comparable incentives but when asked if he offered Marziale a larger salary, Leifson said the city has many valuable employees and getting into salary wars would not be good business.¬ Leifson also stated that Marziale told him it wasn't about the money but more about the position.¬ Leifson described Marziale as a hard worker and is sad to see him go, however, he is happy that Marziale will be able to further his career.¬ Marziale said working for Spanish Fork in the recreation department was one of the most rewarding positions he has had.¬ Anyone who has ever been involved in SF sports will surely miss Marziale's smiling face and 'can do' attitude. |
