Spanish Fork's Kite Festival, celebrating wind power will fly high, beginning Sept. 9, noon. til dusk at the Gun Club. Huge, personal watercraft towed kites will fly over the pressurized irrigation pond, 100 ft oriental kites will take advantage of Spanish Fork's vaunted canyon wind and music, food and family events will round out the day.
Families can spend the day and celebrate Spanish Fork's unique canyon wind and the power and fun it produces until dusk both days of the festival. The event features a kite garden, kite flyers from San Francisco and a kite museum. The public is invited fly their own kites at specified times and places during the two day celebration. The avenue of information, a Green Walk -- an eco-friendly information fair hosts company information booths and displays. It is scheduled for the campground both days. Food vendors and music are scheduled for the entire festival. The huge wind power celebration of wind will begin 11 a.m. at the beach stage, PI pond to welcome the windmills. Speakers scheduled are: Chris Cannon, Mayor Thomas, executives from Edison Mission Energy and Wasatch Wind. There will be a balloon relase and special presentations, says Elaine Hansen festival organizer. the kite festival begins Saturday Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. til dusk. A kids kite making workshop from noon to 2 p.m has limited space available, parents should sign their kids up early. |
