Lone Peak's student council welcomed the student body back to school with one of the cleverest attempts at school spirit I have seen in my two years as a student at Lone Peak High School.
The day started off as a normal assembly day. First period ended a little bit early, and second period started out with announcements. However, instead of the usual announcer, student body president Chris Gallagher, making the announcements; student body vice president Ryan Jolley took over the announcements. Jolley was also put in charge of directing and welcoming students into the assembly, the job usually appointed to the student body president. The assembly started out as any other. Lone Peak's Chamber Choir sang The National Anthem, and Jolley began to initiate the Hello Assembly. That was, however, until the "Joker" announced he was taking over the assembly. The "Joker," played by Senior Kolby Larsen entered the stage with full clown make-up, greasy hair, and an outfit similar to the Joker's in the movie, "Dark Knight." The "Joker" and his entourage captured Jolley and took him off stage. Larsen took the student body hostage and announced the death of school spirit. He insisted there was no way the student body could revive the school spirit that has been lost these past few years at Lone Peak High School. However, student body president Chris Gallagher played a knight dressed in full armor. The knight saved the day when he stopped the Joker from dropping Senior Kate Gourley from the trailer stairs. Gallagher insisted the student body had the "willpower for school spirit" despite what the Joker claimed to be true. The assembly was a parody of the summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight" that brought attention to the lack of school spirit in our school, and called for an immediate change. The student council made a valiant attempt to remind the student body that we have a lot to be proud of, and that school spirit it part of a successful school year. Great job! |
