Mary Odessa Sabey, 95, returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father on August 22, 2008. Odessa was born in Lehi, Utah to Valarious and Sarah Dora Webb Zimmerman on May 25, 1913. She was the oldest of four children, her younger sister is the only survivor, Effie Faye Keith, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Odessa married her neighborhood sweetheart, Arthur Sabey on January 24, 1938. She enjoyed many wonderful years with Art and her family traveling around the United States, Canada & Mexico. She was a loving, caring devoted wife and mother. Her greatest passion in life was her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always at her husband's side. They enjoyed being the Grand Marshalls for the Lehi Roundup Parade. She also enjoyed attending football, basketball & baseball along the side of her husband. Where he went she did too. They were married 58 years and when he passed away part of her went too.
Later in her life they went through the Provo Temple, she served three years as an ordinance worker at the Provo Temple until Art's passing. She served in her LDS church as a primary teacher, mutual dance instructor & Relief Society visiting teacher.
Her working career was being involved in the school lunch program for the Alpine School District, at Lehi Elementary for 25 years. She was appointed lunch room manager in 1958. She attended many state and national school food conventions in Oregon, Nevada and Hawaii. She was also a past president of the Alpine School District Food Workers Association.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Howard and Webb Zimmerman, 3 brothers-in-law, 4 sisters-in-law, 3 nieces and 1 grandson.
She is survived by her daughter, Valdess (Keith) Roberts, Saratoga Springs, Utah and son Michael A. Sabey, Lehi, Utah, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the Lehi 12th Ward LDS Church, 1149 North 300 West, Lehi, Utah at 11:00 am. Family and friends may call 9:00-10-:45 am, Thursday prior to service. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery. Online guest book at wingmortuary.com. |
