On August 22, 2008 Heavenly Father called home one of his angels on earth to be with her eternal family again. Our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, age 66, passed away from complications onset after surgery. She was born to Myron Fredrick Parker Jr. and Wilma Curtis in Belfast, Maine on November 22, 1941.
Living to serve and help others, she pursued a career as a nurse, graduating from Englewood School of Nursing in 1963 with her Bachelor of Nursing. Her most recent career path included time working for Charter Canyon Hospital, Utah State Prison, Utah State Hospital, and Utah State Dept. of Health.
Suzanne was an active member of the Lehi Utah 18th Ward and was currently serving in her Stake Relief Society Presidency. This calling was a natural fit for her as serving others is what brought her joy. Anyone who had the privilege to know or meet Sue were quickly caught up by her warm, loving personality and her beautiful smile. She had the ability to make anyone feel special with her gift of unconditional love and acceptance. Her kind and compassionate approach to life is an example to others. The greatest joy of her life was the time she spent camping, sharing meals, attending school and sporting events with her children and grandchildren. Grammie went out of her way to make each child feel special and loved with a loving hug, soft lap, a listening ear, mending an "owie" or providing a quiet retreat on a rough day. Quick to spoil the children, they always knew of her unconditional love.
Sue grew up as an only child and always longed for a sibling. Her wish was granted in 1995 at the age of 54 when she found her sister, Joan Tenney, developing an instant love and connection only sisters can share. Over the next 13 years, she had many adventures with her "east coast" family who she loved and cherished so much. Sue retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves at the rank of Captain in 1985.
She was greatly loved and survived by her 2 children, Christine (Tyler) Torkelson of Woods Cross, Adam (Jamie) Black of Lehi, 9 grandchildren, sister, Joan Tenney, Hampden, Maine, Uncle Charles Huntoon, Portland, Maine, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Myron Parker, mother Wilma Curtis, Aunt Elizabeth Huntoon, and brother-in-law Albert Tenney.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing Thursday, August 28, 2008 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Lehi Gateway LDS Chapel, 1870 North 1400 West, Lehi, Utah. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gateway chapel where friends may also call from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery.
