SALT LAKE CITY -- A West Jordan High School student will pay fines, get counseling and submit his DNA sample to a state database as punishment for sending explicit messages over a cell phone to a female classmate.
A 3rd District juvenile judge handed down the sentence Thursday. Judge James Michie said the 16-year-old lacrosse player should tell his friends that sexual text messages and sending nude photographs are crimes.
Originally charged with three felonies, the teen pleaded guilty to a pair of class A misdemeanor charges of dealing in harmful material to a minor.
The boy sent pictures of his abdomen and groin to a girl he was dating and asked her to send him naked pictures of herself. The messages continued for about a month before the girl asked school officials for help.
