• The Fort Douglas Military Museum invites proposals for papers to be presented at the Annual Fort Douglas Military History Symposium. The theme this year is "Early Utah Military History, 1840-1890."

Written proposals will be accepted from individuals or panels and should be submitted no later than Sept. 15. Please send proposals to: Fort Douglas Military Museum, 32 Potter St., Ft. Douglas, UT 84113

Proposals should include the title, a brief summary of the subject and a brief resume of the presenter. Please include name, address, telephone number and/or e-mail with your entry. Visuals, graphics and handouts are encouraged. Power point, 35mm slides and overhead transparencies can be supported.

• The Utah Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness is sponsoring a monthly Support Group Meeting to answer your questions about MD/AMD and be a resource to deal with degenerative eye diseases. This month Dr. Brent Feland from the Exercise Sciences Department at Brigham Young University will teach the group how exercise improves general well-being and vision. Adam Reynolds of the Rocky Mountain Low Vision Services will have on display and will demonstrate the many things to assist the group in their everyday vision needs. The meetings are held in Room 201, Provo Library, 550 N. University Ave.

• Thanksgiving Point's Labor Day Luau will be Monday at the waterfall in Thanksgiving Point Gardens, northeast of the Thanksgiving Point Water Tower. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.; dinner will be served at 6 p.m.; entertainment begins at 7 p.m. The luau will feature food, leis, tiki torches and live entertainment from various Polynesian and Pacific Islander cultures. Prices at the door are $20 for adults and $15 for children.

The Springville High School Class of 1963 is having its 45th class reunion on Sept. 13. It will be held at Jolley's Ranch City Pavilion, starting at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. If you were part of the Class of 1963 but have not received a letter about the reunion, it's because the class doesn't have your current address --you are still invited.
