• October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. In commemoration, Share Parents of Utah will hold the 13th Annual Walk to Remember today at 1 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery, 2350 E. 1300 South in Salt Lake City. The event will offer bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents the opportunity for peace, reflection and the chance to walk hand in hand, as they remember infants who have died from miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth and newborn loss. • Brigham Young University's College of Nursing Alumni Board will host a Homecoming 2008 service project to prepare newborn baby kits for local mothers in need today from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Nursing Learning Center, 130 Spencer W. Kimball Tower. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the College of Nursing patient simulation labs and see how simulators are changing modern nursing education. Anyone may attend. • United Way of Utah County is now accepting applications for funding from all nonprofit organizations with programs that are creating lasting change in Utah County in United Way's three focus areas, which are building financially stable families, preparing children to succeed in school and beyond, and creating a cohesive community. According to Bill Hulterstrom, president and CEO of United Way of Utah County, the funding process has undergone some changes from previous years. In addition to being open to all organizations, the process will focus on program funding and will require reporting on program outcomes. The evaluation application will be available during the month of October, and the program application process will start in February. for the necessary information. • Operation Ensuring Christmas will present a benefit concert on Nov. 5 to raise $14,000 to ship 1,500 Christmas boxes to military chaplains who have requested support for their units serving in Iraq and in a hospital in Kuwait. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at 26 E. 600 South, Salt Lake City. Tickets cost $5 for military members and $10-$15 for the public and are available at www.letterstosoldiers.org or at the door. LINDON • Anytime Fitness Lindon's first "Down with Anytime 5K" road race and fun run will be today starting at 9 a.m. at 643 W. 700 North. Ten percent of all proceeds will go to the Utah County chapter of the Utah Down Syndrome Foundation. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and costs $30 for adults, $10 for children ages 17 and under.
