Timpanogos' Parker Brown is listed on the football roster as a quarterback and as a kicker. But if you watch a Timpanogos game, you may notice Brown doing more than kickoffs and field goals and throwing touchdowns.
In fact, if you were in Lehi on Friday night, you witnessed Brown throw two touchdowns, catch two TD passes and run for one touchdown in Timpanogos' homecoming-spoiling 41-11 Region 4 victory over the host Pioneers.
"He's just such a great athlete. There are so many places he can play," Timpanogos coach Brad Molen said. "We really think he's the best kicker in the state and he's a great quarterback."
Oh yeah -- when he wasn-t throwing/receiving/running for touchdowns, or kicking, Brown was seen breaking up some Lehi passes on defense.
"Along with being a receiver, we are starting to play him more and more at defensive back, too," Molen added. "There are just so many things he can do."
Brown and his teammates didn't start off as hot as they finished, as Lehi (2-5, 0-3) controlled the first quarter of play and took a 3-0 lead into the second quarter after Brennan Stringham connected on a 31-yard field goal.
Timpanogos (3-4, 1-2) found the scoreboard midway through the second quarter after Jo Jo Pili found the end zone on a 2-yard scamper. On the T'Wolves' next offensive possession, Brown connected with Joe Kruger for 23 yards before finding Kruger again for a 2-yard touchdown pass.
Timpanogos wasn't able to get into the flow of its offense in the first half of the bitter-cold night.
"I thought a lot of it was the wind and that took us out of our game," Molen said. "We like to throw a lot and that kind of took us out with the wind being so strong."
Timpanogos overcame the weather problems and got some cooperation from Mother Nature in the second half to erupt for a 28-point third quarter, all within the first nine minutes.
"The wind died down in the second half and it allowed us to play more of our game," Molen added.
Timpanogos had four offensive possessions in the third quarter and Brown was able to lead the T'Wolves to the end zone on all four.
Justin Nickle broke free from his defender for a 65-yard touchdown pass from Brown on the T'Wolves first possession before Brown took advantage of a Lehi fumbled punt, scoring on an 8-yard run.
Timpanogos' last two touchdowns came with Brown on the receiving end of two Brooks Fowler passes. Fowler found Brown for a 26-yard score before following that up with a 47-yard long ball for six points to complete the T'Wolves' offensive night.
The Timpanogos defense, which has allowed a combined 61 points in the T'Wolves' last two games, returned to its stingy ways Friday night.
"We2/3ve been relying on our defense all year," Molen said. "I thought they did a great job."
The victory marks the first win for Timpanogos in Region 4 play. The T'Wolves will look to add to that as they host Lone Peak on Wednesday. Lehi will travel to Spanish Fork to take on the Dons on Wednesday. |
