Historical society to present lecture Print E-mail
Daily Herald

History is the story of peoples and cultures through time. Frequently that story involves conflict, the clash of peoples and cultures as they vie for occupancy of land, consumption of resources, and the supremacy of ideologies and life ways. Words such as accommodation, assimilation, displacement, enslavement and annihilation come to mind when we think of centuries of cultural interaction and conflict.

The Utah Valley Historical Society focuses on the clash of cultures in the southwest part of Utah Territory which began with Mormon settlement and continued through the time of the mining booms.

Dr. W. Paul Reeve, assistant professor of Utah history and history of the American West at the University of Utah, will present "Making Space on the Western Frontier: Mormons, Miners and Southern Paiutes."

Reeve earned his bachelor's and master's in history from Brigham Young University and his Ph.D. at the University of Utah.
