You don't need a comb and a mirror to benefit from the good effects of "Hairspray" at Hale Center Theater Orem. The 1988 John Waters movie that became a Broadway musical sensation in 2002, then went back into theaters (with John Travolta and Zac Efron) in 2007, is back on the stage.
The HCTO production will have you tapping your toe and giggling like, well, a teenage girl. Like Tracy Turnblad, really, the sunny high school heroine who turns the entire city of Baltimore on its ear after she realizes her dream of shaking her booty on "The Corny Collins" show.
Tracy's upbeat attitude is also an inspiration to her shy, self-conscious mother, Edna, and since the role of Edna is always played by a man (including in Orem, Utah), the show works as either a daddy-daughter date, or a mother-daughter girls night out.
