Halloween is fast approaching, and a spooky night at the Valley Center Playhouse theater is the ultimate seasonal kickoff for you and your date.

"Shadowbrook Mansion" -- a musical comedy of singing and dancing ghouls and goblins -- opens tonight at 7:30. Performances will be every Thursday and Friday through Oct. 30.

In "Hotel Frankenstein," a family expecting a relaxing, resort vacation runs into mayhem at the Frankenstein establishment.

"Hotel Frankenstein" performances will be every Saturday and Monday at 7:30 p.m. through Nov. 2.

Tickets are $7 for regular admission, and $5 for children, students and seniors. Group and family rates are available. To make reservations or for more information, call (801) 785-1186.
