The beautiful people and the glitz and glamour of the Sundance Film Festival are almost entirely to be found in Park City, but if you just want to catch some new and interesting films, then the festival is no farther away than Sundance Resort in Provo Canyon.
There's a full slate of films that will be shown at the Sundance Resort Screening Room -- check out filmguide.sundance.org for details. One that's certain to be of interest to anyone who enjoys rock concerts and the music industry in general is the documentary "Twenty Feet from Stardom," to be shown at the resort Friday at 9 p.m.
The film dares to ask, "Who are those one dudes (or ladies) who are doing that echo thing in the background while the lead singer plows through another chorus?" A candid look at the lives of backing vocalists, "Twenty Feet from Stardom" includes insight from the likes of Bruce Springsteen (who married his longtime backup singer, Patti Scialfa, in 1991) and Bette Midler.
Remaining tickets to all festival films are available online (sundance.org/festival) if purchased 36 hours in advance. Spur-of-the-moment or last-minute types can also sometimes -- with a little patience and a little luck -- grab tickets via the wait list at festival venues. Check sundance.org/festival/tickets/ for more details.
