Michael Grant Goates

Michael Grant Goates passed away on September 23, 2012 in Springville, Utah. He was born August 5, 1957 in Provo, Utah to Grant Alton and Dorothy Foutin Goates.
As a young man, he engaged in an extensive education, attending the University of Utah focusing on a Major in Biochemistry and a Minor in Greek and Latin Literature. Michael continued on to acquire his Doctor of Medicine as an honors student, St. Lucia. He went on with his education as a Resident of the Internal Medicine Program, Derby, Connecticut. He served as Resident in Psychiatry Program, Norwich, Connecticut. Returning to Utah, he was associated with Mountain View Hospital, Southern Utah Psychiatric Association and President Elect SUPA. Michael was APBA Board Certified. During the years of his medical career, he was affiliated with the American Psychiatric Association, Utah Psychiatric Association, UPA Executive Board, President SUPA, the American Society of Addictive Medicine, Medical Director Mountain View Hospital and Central Utah Mental Health. He enthusiastically participated in many Clinical Workshops and Research Programs around the United States. His writings and conclusions were published.
Michael was very well read, enjoying his love of the sciences and the world around him. He delighted in trying new hobbies, ranging from tropical fish to cheese making and smoking meats. He loved astronomy, rock hounding or anything else he could find a book on. He was a volunteer for the Utah Story Telling Festival. He loved sharing his knowledge with his children, family and friends.
Michael is survived by his mother, Dorothy F Goates and three siblings, Susan (Goates) Engle, Cindy (Craig) LeBaron and James Goates. Michael is survived by, Valerie (Bailey) Goates and their three children Andrea (Brent) Thomson, Chelsea Goates, Todd Goates and two grandchildren, Oliver Goates and Ellie Jane Thomson. Michael is survived by, Dayna (Newitt) Goates, her daughter Allie Winnie and their two children Kalei Goates and Aidan Goates. Michael is survived by Amii Gabbitas and her son Jet Marler.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the mortuary one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Lehi Cemetery. Condolences may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
