Orem Community Church hosts concert

When he was younger, Provo resident Bob Bailey used to play the piano for big singing stars like Dean Martin, Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole. Tonight, he'll play for you.

Bailey and Evangelical Christian singer/songwriter John Bayley will both be performing at a special concert at Orem Community Church. The concert, at 7 p.m. tonight, is free and open to the public.

The Rev. Daniel Haas said in a release announcing the event that Orem Community decided to host Bailey and Bayley to thank Orem residents for their generosity during the recent Summerfest, when the church sold parking and concessions to festivalgoers.

Orem Community Church is located at 130 N. 400 East in Orem.

Sierra Club lauds LDS Church's City Creek development

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been given a pat on the back by a national environmental group because of its eco-friendly design and development of a downtown Salt Lake City revitalization project.

With the release by the Sierra Club on Thursday of a report titled "Faith in Action -- Communities of Faith Bring Hope for the Planet," LDS officials have been commended for their planning and construction of the 20-acre City Creek Center that adjoins church property near Temple Square.

The release includes comments from Sierra Club spokesman Marc Heileson, who said that the City Creek Center "will be a great core destination for downtown Salt Lake City. We applaud the LDS Church for their leadership for smarter growth patterns that will increase transit use and improve air quality."

The City Creek Center, scheduled to be completed in 2012, is one of the last major LDS Church construction projects launched under the supervision of former President Gordon B. Hinckley, who died in January.
