One thing the Luthy sisters have in common is a love for chocolate. They savor it so much that they will be making their obsession public this weekend at Sandy's South Towne Expo Center.

Sisters Melanie Henderson, 36, of Provo, Annette Lyon, 32, of American Fork and Michelle Stevenette, 30, of South Jordan will be presenting the Utah Chocolate Show from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

"We have a European mother who introduced us to the good stuff early on," said Annette, assistant director of the show. Their mom, Anne Luthy of Provo, (but now on an LDS mission with husband, Melvin, in Helsinki), grew up in Finland and introduced her children to Fazer, a classic chocolate first manufactured in 1894 in Helsinki.

"It's much smoother than any others I've tasted," Annette said of Fazer, her personal favorite. "It's smooth and rich and pure, unadulterated milk chocolate. ... "

Other good chocolate brands she recommends are Lindt, Tobler and "some Swedish ones." Annette said she'll sometimes "grab a Snickers or Hershey bar" to satisfy chocolate urges when she's on the run.

Chocolate is such a powerful item around the Lyon household that Annette has converted her husband, Rob to the confection. "He's a chocoholic!" she said. "He has to have a chocolate after dinner."

When he blamed his love for chocolate on Annette, she said, "I almost said, 'Sorry,' but how can you be sorry for thatfi"

Annette's addiction runs to a daily "fix" as well. "I'm a writer, so I have a canister of truffles in my office," said Annette. When she finishes a project, she rewards herself with a treat.

She points out that chocolate is, in fact, beneficial as well as pleasurable. "The darker the chocolate the healthier it is for you," Annette said. "Pure cocoa has the antioxidants and vitamins in it."

One of the Utah Chocolate Show's vendors, Xocai, is bringing a healthy chocolate drink, said Annette. It's a blend of chocolate and berries.

See's Candy, Utah Truffles and chocolate vendors galore will all showcase their wares this weekend. A number of classes are offered, from a free candy-making class to a $25 beginner class on dipping. You can register for classes at www.utahchocolateshow.com.

Look for these two new features this year: A Holiday Winter Wonderland with fountains and samples throughout, and the Chocolate Sculpture Gallery with a fairytale and fantasy theme.

"The sculptures are 3, 4 and 5 feet tall with Alice In Wonderland, dragons and fairies," said Annette. Sculptures will be auctioned off Saturday evening to benefit One Heart, part of Alan Osmond's charity network.

"Chocolate lovers of every stripe" will enjoy the new classes and features of Utah Chocolate Show, said Annette. "It's been one amazing ride working together -- and with chocolate."
