Whether you want a whole lot of bang for a whole lot of bucks or a little less bang for literally no bucks, Utah Valley has several options for firework watchers this Fourth of July, from casual, picnic-style spots to top-notch reserved seating. Here are a few local places lighting up the sky this Independence Day:¬
This year, Utah's biggest firework production's theme is "Blockbusters in the Sky."¬
After performances by Miley Cyrus and The Blue Man Group, the firework finale, by Stellar Fireworks, will include creative fireworks such as double red hearts to the tunes of blockbuster movies.¬
"It's like a cinematic romp," said Brad Bone, show designer from Stellar Fireworks. "It's really fun because just about everyone will know these themes. ... Part of the fun is saying, 'I know that music, what's it from?' "
The show of fireworks and movie theme songs will begin after 10 p.m. and last 16-18 minutes, with a patriotic grand finale that will last 8-10 minutes.¬
• When: Show begins at 8 tonight¬
• Where: LaVell Edwards Stadium, Provo¬
• Cost: $35-$120. Note: The show is sold out but tickets may still be available on secondary ticket markets like eBay, craigslist, etc. If you don't have a ticket, you can still get a great view of the fireworks from near the stadium.¬
Fireworks at Thanksgiving Point¬
With 12 acres of open grass and seating capacity for 10,000 people, Thanksgiving Point has the means to put on a fireworks show to please the crowds.
Fireworks from one of the largest firework companies in the state, Fireworks West, will be shot off from Electric Park for 20 minutes, starting at sundown.
Gates to the park open at 6 p.m., and concessions will be available starting at 7 p.m.
"It's just a casual, fun thing," said Erica VanAmen, director of communications at Thanksgiving Point. "Bring a picnic blanket and some food, and hang out and watch the show."¬
