Timpanogos pitcher Alli Bramwell was on fire, but she wasn't the reason that the Orem Fire Department showed up.

The reason the parademics were called out to the T'Wolves' 12-0 shutout of Orem in six innings at Lady Tiger Field on Thursday was Orem starting third baseman Jessica Saliby. Saliby broke her right tibia in the top of the fifth inning with her team trailing 5-0.

"There was a runner on first and second," said Orem coach Jamie Nebeker. "The ball was hit to Dylse (Downey) at short and she threw it over to third."

Rachel Hecker slid into third attempting to be safe when there was a pop.

"(The slide) was just one of those unfortunate things," said Nebeker. "It wasn't malicious at all--she just did what she had to do."

"It was horrible," said Timpanogos coach Frank Bramall. "Plays like those overshadow good performances by both teams. I just feel sorry for her and her parents."

Bramwell's performance was one of those that might have been overshadowed by the accident. The senior ace was dominant on the mound, striking out 13 while only allowing one hit by Downey in the bottom of the first inning.

"I was getting in the zone," said Bramwell. "It is different going from indoors to the dirt, but it felt really good."

The T'Wolves didn't rely on the strength of Bramwell's arm to win them the ball game, the Timpanogos bats showed up in the season opener as well.

"The girls played better than I thought," said Bramall. "Tajia (Law) got a big hit with the bases loaded and Chelsey (Brown) had a double early in the game that got us going."

The three-RBI double with an error by Law was part of a seven-run sixth inning that put the game out of reach for the T'Wolves.

"The injury really took the wind out of our sails," said Nebeker. "It's tough on a young team, but hopefully we can regroup." Timpanogos will play the Box Elder Bees today at 3:30 at Springville High School. Orem moves on to play Payson next Thursday.
