SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah's state quarter, commemorating completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869, was unveiled Monday at the U.S. Mint.
On the back, two locomotives face each other. A spike divides them with the words "Crossroads of the West" above the trains.
The Utah quarter, available Nov. 5, is the 45th in the popular state series, said Guillermo Hernandez, a spokesman at the U.S. Mint in Denver.
It takes about 10 weeks to produce about 250 million Utah quarters, Hernandez said.
The railroad spike was the top choice of Utah residents, beating out beehive and winter sports designs.
A new quarter is released every 10 weeks, in the order states were admitted into the Union.
