KEARNS, Utah -- Preliminary autopsy results on the bodies of a woman and three children found inside a burning home indicate the deaths are the result of murder-suicide, police said.

Sharon Al-Shimmary, 40, and her children Ashley, 9, Christopher, 7, and Heather, 3, were found dead by firefighters Sunday in their Kearns home. All four were found in an upstairs bedroom -- two on the bed and two on the floor, where the fire was started and contained, Salt Lake County sheriff's Lt. Paul Jaroscak said Monday.

The combination of preliminary autopsy results and evidence suggest Al-Shimmary killed the three children and herself, Jaroscak said.

The bedroom was locked from the inside, Jaroscak said.

Police were not ready to discuss other evidence in the case, but said there were no obvious signs of trauma or assault on any of the children's bodies.

Medical examiners are awaiting several test results before issuing a definitive cause of death, he said.

Al-Shimmary's husband, whom relatives said she was divorcing, has been interviewed and his whereabouts at the time of the fire verified, Jaroscak said. He is cooperating with police in the investigation.

The family had lived in the home for less than a year.

Neighbors called for help after smoke was seen pouring from roof vents and smoke alarms blared. Several people pounded on doors and window, but no one responded.
