Over the next few weeks, a heavily traveled intersection in Pleasant Grove will see major changes as both Lindon and Pleasant Grove near completion of road sections that will eventually become a major thoroughfare on the east side of the two cities.

All that remains to be completed on the 700 North portions running from State Street to the Lindon boundary on 2000 West is some striping, landscaping and signage, said Ott Dameron, Lindon city administrator.

Although it is slated to be completed by the end of this month, Dameron said Lindon will wait to open the road until November when a traffic signal is installed and operational on Geneva Road and 700 North.

The road in Lindon will provide the city 102 feet of right of way and as development comes into the area, sidewalk, curb and gutter will also be installed, he said.

Right now the only business slated along 700 North is an automated recreation center, which will be run by computers with a remote-control , that is under construction, Dameron said. Nothing else is in the works, although some inquiries for development have been made to the city.

In its original conceptualization, the new road coming from Lindon was planned to meet up with the Pleasant Grove portion this fall connecting with Pleasant Grove Boulevard and providing direct access to Interstate 15.

Although city officials from Lindon were hoping the two would mesh together on a similar timetable, Pleasant Grove got a late start and will not have its portion completed until the spring.

The delay was due to time restraints on the road construction north of the boulevard, and also due to lack of available manpower to complete the job, said Pleasant Grove City Administrator Frank Mills.

To complete construction on the north end, the city teamed up with land developer Dennis Baker, who plans to develop an office structure north of the boulevard.

"We are in the process of just finishing putting in the sewer north of the boulevard," Mills said. "We already have a contractor hired to get the road base, sidewalk, curb and gutter in and asphalt laid before the BMW franchise opens in November."

Work is now also underway on a smaller road being constructed closer to the interchange heading toward the BMW location. That road should open by Nov. 1, providing a right turn-in, right turn-out street that will connect the road with Sam White's Lane.

Mills said the city will begin bidding out the roadway piece from Pleasant Grove to Lindon -- the south part of the road -- within the next 30 days to begin work, although that portion is not anticipated to have asphalt until the spring.
